Business Coaching - Some Basic Ideas About Our Work Together
Michelle Rabouin is a coach, author and founder of Sylvain DuBois, and a true believer in the human spirit. She is genuinely committed to the success of others. Michelle helps professionals build confidence and competence through envisioning their life's purpose, aligning their business activities with that purpose, and powerfully attracting the future success they want and deserve. The process she uses is called Business Coaching.
Get a New Point of View
Business Coaching is a professional service providing clients with feedback, insights, and guidance from an outside vantage point. The profession of coaching is somewhat similar to the practice of a physician, attorney, or psychologist in the sense of applying specialized training to solving a perceived problem.
But it is also very different.
A Powerful Alliance
The major difference is that Business Coaching is an on-going collaborative partnership, focused on both external and internal issues, and built on taking long term action. In this powerful alliance, clients find themselves:
- Doing more than they would on their own
- Taking themselves more seriously
- Creating momentum and consistency
- Taking more effective and focused actions
- Becoming more balanced and fulfilled.
You Have a Challenge
People hire a coach when they are making a career transition, starting a new business, feeling dissatisfied, re-evaluating life choices, or simply looking for personal and professional breakthroughs.
Business coaches are people developers. They don't tell their clients what to do; they ask questions. Their message is, "You're smart. I'll be a mirror to help you look inside yourself, so you can not only solve this problem, but increase your capacity to successfully manage all areas of your life."
The entry point in business coaching is usually a business issue. The client may want to increase sales, promote better teamwork, enhance productivity, reduce turnover, or improve quality. But the coaching relationship, once initiated, invariably moves beyond the initial perceived need. "Fix my business" gradually and naturally evolves into "fix how my business expresses my core values."
Because the professional relationship forged during Business Coaching is a little different than what most people are used to, the definitions below may be helpful.
What is Business Coaching?
Business Coaching is a vital part of growing your business and yourself. Engaging a coach enables you to look at your current belief systems, business challenges and patterns that can either enhance or limit your ability to scale your company to greater success. Coaching is not therapy, because it deals with today and tomorrow -- and only addresses the past if it is relevant to a current issue.
Coaching can help you identify and verbalize your true purpose, both in life and in your business, create a vision which builds the journey of living your purpose, and create goals and objectives and a strategic plan to fulfill them. Coaching helps you face yourself, and deal with your inner barriers to greater business growth and self- awareness.
Coaching enables you to set priorities and discipline yourself to follow them, delegate tasks so you are freed up to actually lead your company, and evaluate your business practices to create greater efficiencies and systems. We have found that coaching works best when it is paid for, as then you, as the client, truly value and feel compelled to take the advice and actually apply it to your business and your life. If it isn't paid for, the challenge it brings can be more easily explained away or disregarded.
We have found that clients who take full advantage of the coaching process move faster toward their goal of taking their businesses to the next level and beyond. By working with a coach each client gains a confidential way to tackle the internal barriers that keep them from moving forward.
The more you understand how the coaching process works, the more quickly you will be able to reach your objectives. The more you allow the process to operate as it was designed, the greater the rewards you will receive from using the process. The more you resist the process, the more you will reduce the benefits you receive. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me. If you are ever uncomfortable about a question or the process please let me know. In this way we will both be sure that your business coaching sessions are designed to help you accomplish your chosen coachable goals.
Here's to our great work together!
Roles of the Coach and Client:
Coaches assist their clients to achieve their coachable goals.
Clients set their goals and the reason they hire a coach is to accomplish their goals.
Coaches are Equal Partners with their clients.
Coaches are like a copilot sitting in the passenger seat of an automobile traveling to the same destination (the accomplishment of their clients goals). Coaches do not exhibit a superior position.
Coaches do NOT provide expert advice.
Coaches encourage their clients to find the answers inside the wise person they have virtually been all along.
Coaches perform NO tasks on behalf of their clients.
Coaching clients always drive the car. Coaching clients perform all of the action steps to achieve their goals.
Coaching clients will improve and grow as a person as they achieve their coaching goals.
The goals that are best suited for the coaching process require clients to grow and improve as a person to accomplish them. Business coaching clients reduce their stress, increase their energy, make better decisions, increase their life balance, increase their peace of mind, and focus more on what is really important to them, BECAUSE of participating in the coaching process.
Coaching clients have almost TOTAL control over the RESULTS they reap from coaching.
Coaching clients set the goals they want to achieve through coaching. The purpose of hiring a coach is to achieve their goals. Their coaches concentrate on the goals being achieved. Both the clients and their coaches must discover the path to success together. Clients will control and follow the path of discovery that reveals their inner passions, desires, values and priorities The achievement of the predetermined goals produces the RESULTS desired, and much more.
Coaching is ALWAYS confidential.
Coaching clients can be confident that the coaching process is very confidential and private, and unless the client says something, no one will even know a person has a coach. The very personal nature of the coaching process requires clients and their coaches to develop a very strong mutually trusting, mutually respectful and mutually focused partnership. What happens in coaching, stays in coaching.
Our credo is simple.
